4 Simple Summer Fitness Tips

June 3, 2020

With summer 2020 just around the corner, it may be time to start thinking about some easy summer workout routines to get that beach body back in full gear. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, you can still get a great workout from home. Below we discuss some helpful fitness tips that won’t infringe upon your day and get you into shape in no time.

Try to bike or run at least a mile every day.

Cardio is a great way to relieve stress and lose weight. While running can be detrimental to your knees in the long term, biking is a great alternative that will prove to be very satisfying. Along with your physical well-being, it is beneficial to your mental health if you get outside every day and do something active.

Push yourself to do push-ups.

While you’re working from home, you might have some extra time throughout the day to take short breaks and get some exercise. Push-ups are great for your upper body strength, can be done almost anywhere, and present an opportunity for continual improvement. They are most effective when you set small goals for yourself and try to increase the amount you are able to do in one session each day. If you haven’t regularly done push-ups in a while, try to start with a small amount. We recommend you begin with 10 and work up in small increments every day until you reach 100. This will give you more confidence and determination when you begin to pursue more challenging workouts.

All hail the burpee!

Burpees are the challenging workout we're talking about. This holistic workout helps you to develop muscle strength and burn some serious calories. Burpees increase your heart rate and provide good blood flow throughout your workout, making you more productive when you move onto other routines in the same session. They are one of the only workouts that engage all of the major muscle groups including your arms, chest, quads, glutes, hamstrings, and abs. If you’re unfamiliar with burpees, check out some helpful videos on the internet and learn how to implement them into your daily routine.

Good old fashion jump rope.

You may see this as a childish thing to do and it might bring you back to the days on the playground at recess, but jump rope is actually one of the most beneficial home workouts you can do. Jump rope elevates your heart rate and decreases your long term risk of heart disease or stroke. It also burns more calories per minute and will help you lose weight if done routinely. Similar to burpees, jump rope engages more major muscle groups and qualifies as a low impact workout.
