Are Early Morning or Late Night Workouts at the Fitness Club Better for Your Health?

February 6, 2020

Let’s face it, finding time to work out isn’t always easy. Between career and family responsibilities, there isn’t much time left over for heading to the gym. Which is why most people exercise either before it all starts with an early morning trip to the gym or after the day is done for an evening or late-night workout.

But, which is better for your body?

The Argument for Morning Exercise

When you start your day with a spinning class or a weight lifting session, you can get your blood pumping and jumpstart your metabolism, before the sun even rises! Ask anyone who goes to their fitness club in the morning – those early workouts can leave you invigorated for the rest of the day. Plus, you know that once you’re done with work, you can head home and spend the rest of the evening doing what you want rather than feeling like you have to drag yourself to the gym.

In a recent Forbes article, professional weight loss coach Dave Smith explains, “Putting it off until later in the day creates too many opportunities for other ‘priorities’ to replace the time that a person intended for exercise.”

So, if you like to move first, relax later, morning gym sessions are the way to go.

The Argument for Evening Exercise

On the other hand, working out later in the day is one of the best ways to relieve stress. At Strive Fitness, our fitness club members can take a yoga class, hit the punching bag, or sweat it out on one of our cardio machines and let all the worries of the day melt away.

A lot of people like to come in with their friends after work to lift weights or take a class together. Exercising together is a great way to stay motivated and to have even more fun at the gym.

Work Out Your Way

Ultimately, whatever time of day is more convenient for you is the best time to exercise because you'll be more likely to stick with your routine.

Whether you work out at five in the morning or 11 at night, as long as you’re getting your session in, you’re doing something positive for your body. Ideally, you’re getting 30 minutes of cardio activity at least five days a week, as well as strengthening and resistance exercises. Make physical activity a part of your life and you won’t just look and feel great, you’ll have a healthier heart, stronger bones, and more energy.

At Strive Fitness, we’re open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We know everyone has their own approach to staying in shape, so we like to give our customers the freedom to revolve their workouts around their lifestyle.

After all, if you’re committed, you don’t want to sign up with a fitness club that’s going to close its doors just when you finally make it to the gym. As far as we’re concerned, you can come in anytime. We just want you to get in your workouts and reap the rewards of staying fit. Strive for more. Come visit our Wilmington, MA fitness club today.
